China Cultural Exchange

Summer 2020

This unique program, intended for students with leadership qualities and servant hearts, is a great way to experience Chinese culture and take part in a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Participants will spend ten days teaching English to 7th-8th grade students in the Fujian Province in southern China. This cultural exchange gives opportunity for HCU students to learn about Chinese culture and for the Chinese students to learn about life in America. Upon completion of the service portion of the trip, the group will have several days of sightseeing in Shanghai and Beijing, where you will go on a Shanghai Riverboat Cruise, experience the world renowned Shanghai Soup Dumplings, visit the world’s largest Starbucks, The Temple of Heaven, The Forbidden City, and The Great Wall!

Selected students will be notified with the link to complete their registration and first payment. Applicants will be chosen based on the following qualifications, as well as answers given to the questions on the interest form and interview.

Basic Qualifications for this trip:

  • Must be enrolled as full-time (undergrad and graduate) student at HCU
  • Must be involved in, or show potential for, leadership at HCU
  • Must be a flexible team-player
  • Must be willing to use provided curriculum and training to lead a classroom of about 20 students (with an English-speaking Chinese assistant)

Although the value of this trip is over $6000, the school in China covers many of the costs:

  • All food in-country (Three meals a day plus snacks for 19 days)
  • All lodging and hotels
  • All admission fees for excursions, tour guides, and in-country transportation
  • Travel health insurance

Students are responsible for:

  • Passport fees
  • Airport food or additional snacks in-country, optional
  • $2,000 program fee (Payment one $1,000 due first, Payment two $500 due after that, and payment three $500 due several weeks after that)
  • Additional incidental costs or souvenirs are optional and will vary depending on the student’s interest
