*Join us this Fall for our first Essentials Course on the Old Testament*

Mondays this Fall. 7-8:30pm
September 9th-November 18th
Location: Via Zoom or In-Person at Heights Church

The Essentials Course is designed for busy people who want to go deeper in understanding the Bible and theology for the sake of ministry.

  • The class runs for 11 weeks, beginning with a kickoff gathering, and concluding with a celebratory quizbowl.
  • September 9th – Kickoff Class – 7-8:30pm @ Heights Church (230 West 20th Street
    Houston, Texas 77008)
  • September 16th through November 11th – Meet via Zoom or in-person at Heights Church
  • November 18th – Final Class & Celebration of Learning
  • In-between classes, the students will complete readings and short reflections. Students will submit a final writing assignment that summarizes their learning.

Cost: Each Essentials class costs $380, which includes two meals at the kickoff and final celebration.

Fall 2024: The Old Testament with Dr. Paul Sloan

Class Description: This class is part one of the Essentials series. It covers the basic scriptural narrative of the Old Testament, touching on the big ideas and background information to understand the New Testament. Students will read most of the Old Testament.

Instructor Bio: Dr. Paul Sloan, Associate Professor of Theology at Houston Christian University

Dr. Sloan (PhD, University of St Andrews) is the author of Mark 13 and the Return of the Shepherd: The Narrative Logic of Zechariah in Mark, as well as many articles on the importance of the Old Testament for New Testament studies. He is the teaching pastor at Heights Church. When he’s not writing or teaching, he’s spending time with his wife, Meg, and three kids: Elijah, Kate, and Elizabeth.

Academic Program Fellow: Trevor Harris

 Mr. Harris is a graduate of Houston Theological Seminary and a PhD Candidate at the University of Aberdeen.
