Career and Calling at HCU

Career and Calling at HCU

The Office of Career and Calling at Houston Christian University is the centralized career resource for all majors including alumni. We prepare all of our students for the World of Business beginning in the very first year of college. The career coaching and developing of our students continues throughout the undergraduate years into graduate school and beyond as HCU alumni. Professionals are encouraged to come back home for career assistance and retooling. Our mission statement: The Office of Career and Calling seeks to provide assistance for students and alumni in exploring one’s life calling through personal discovery, vocational exploration, and educational training. Our “adopted scripture: Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” – Isaiah 30:21

The Office of Career and Calling is responsible to our student body for assisting with professional development and preparation for the market place during a students’ tenure at HCU or after graduation. In an effort to engage the market place in behalf of our students, we regularly invite employers from all industries to be part of Career Fairs, Mock Interview trials and other events hosted by this office. In addition, the Office of Career and Calling facilitates on Campus employment through a Work-Study & On Job Career Fair heading into every Fall.

This year the Work-Study & On Campus Job Fair is scheduled for August 22, 2018 from 1pm – 3pm in Hinton Center, Room 135 (aka Dillon II). This Job Fair is designed so that students who have work study benefits can speak with department representatives who are looking to hire student workers. Our Career Fairs require professional attire, an approved resume, and registration through HCU’s Hire-A-Husky system. For students who do not have professional attire, we partner with Career Gear and Dress For Success Houston to provide ‘FREE’ suits for students attending a Career Fair or who has an interview. Students must come to the Office of Career & Calling to obtain a referral for this service. In all things the Office of Career and Calling prepares Huskies for the real world. A job applicant would have to do all these things in a job search. Students as early as their Freshman year are exposed and prepared for the job search process.
