HCU Degree Programs in the Gideon Institute

HCU’s M.A. degree programs are unique in North America. We believe that the theological, developmental, and therapeutic assumptions of Christianity warrant the construction of distinctly Christian versions of psychology, psychotherapy, and counseling. So, rather than simply teach our students the secular versions of psychology, psychotherapy, and counseling that currently dominate these fields (including most degree programs at Christian universities), we begin by studying the psychological and therapeutic resources of the Bible and the Christian traditions, before appropriating the best from contemporary psychology and therapy according to Christian beliefs about God and humanity; Christian values regarding human purpose, meaning, ethics, and ultimacy; and Christian practices of spirituality, communion, and soul care.
