Under the purview of Student Affairs, the student conduct process is designed to foster and maintain a safe, enjoyable, faith-integrated learning environment within our campus community and to address incidents that compromise that environment with education, accountability and restoration.
Students, faculty and staff can report through Advocate: care reports, as well as grievances, academic integrity issues, or violations of residential policies or the Student Code of Conduct. The Director of Student Conduct coordinates Advocate and the student conduct process.
Students involved in potential conduct violations are given the opportunity for a hearing to speak into the process about what was reported in order to resolve or address the situations appropriately. Students are expected to read and understand the details of the conduct process as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct section of the Student Handbook.
The Student Handbook contains important information and policies that students are expected to follow, including the Student Code of Conduct. Reported violations of the Student Code of Conduct are investigated by Student Conduct and may result in serious consequences. Students are expected to regularly check their HCU email.
No. It is important that you open any email from Advocate, HCU’s student conduct database. The email will include a link to login to the database and receive important communications, including deadlines for participation in the student conduct process.
Student Conduct received a report regarding potential violations of the HCU Student Code of Conduct. This hearing is for information gathering and to give you the opportunity to provide information from your perspective and ask questions about the process. You are required to attend that meeting, or you must email your Student Conduct Administrator to reschedule if you have a conflict.
Yes, students may have one advisor present with them. An advisor is required to be an HCU student, faculty, or staff member and may not be an attorney or family member. Advisors cannot participate directly in the process or speak on your behalf, but may offer you advice and support during your meeting.
If a student has been assigned consequences (sanctions) that are overdue or has an unresolved student conduct matter, there may be a hold on the student’s account preventing class registration. Contact conduct@hc.edu for questions about a Student Conduct hold on your account.
Other universities, graduate or professional schools, employers, or other agencies may request for you to release information about your disciplinary record as part of an application process. These forms may request records described as “Dean of Students,” “student conduct,” “judicial,” or “disciplinary” records. As there may be multiple stages of review, please allow up to two weeks for processing. Students or outside agencies may submit such forms or requests to Student Conduct at conduct@hc.edu.
