Dr. Chris Hammons is an award-winning professor of Political Science and sought-after speaker on the American Founding. He teaches classes on the Federalist Papers, constitutional history, and American politics. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s and doctorate in Political Science from the University of Houston.
Dr. Hammons has published articles in the prestigious American Political Science Review, The Journal of Law & Public Policy, the Albany Law Review, Education Next, the Houston Business Journal, and the Houston Chronicle. He is the editor and a contributor to a volume of essays on the American Founding called Origins of Our Founding Principles. His first book, Constitutionalism of the American States, was nominated by the American Political Science Association for best book in history and politics. He is currently writing a book on the Federalist Papers.
Dr. Hammons is passionate about teaching the next generation of citizens about the importance of our nation’s founding principles. He has been nominated or won multiple teaching awards, including the University’s highest teaching award several times. He received in 2023 a national award from the Daughters of the American Revolution for education on the American Founding.
Dr. Hammons serves as the founding director of the Morris Family Center for Law & Liberty, which promotes understanding and appreciation of our nation’s history and founding ideals.
