More Information & FAQ's

Banner SaaS (Software as a Service) is a project to move our Banner On-Premise system to the cloud. The project is working in tandem with one track of technical updates and a second track of modernization updates.

The technical team is preparing the Banner SaaS cloud environment. The modernization team is working to identify improvements or create business processes. The goal is to create a scalable software experience that is student focused.

Modernization means identifying gaps or pain points in current processes; or creating new business processes where none exist. This is achieved by learning Banner baseline functionality and implementing baseline solutions to meet our end goals.

Moving Banner to the cloud means that custom scripts and processes will need to be evaluated to find Banner baseline solutions that will be supported by Ellucian. We are moving away from custom-built data solutions to industry best practices and standards. By streamlining processes, our goal is to enhance the student experience, improve reporting accuracy, and drive measurable outcomes.

The distinction between functional and enablement consulting sessions are their focus and objectives within the project. While both roles often overlap and complement each other, functional consulting is more system- and process-oriented, whereas enablement consulting is more people- and adoption-focused. Together, they contribute to successful implementations and operations.

Functional Sessions: Functionality of a specific processes, alignment business procedures to utilize maximum available system functionality.

  • Sessions will typically have topics related to the specific processes and functionality being discussed.
  • Functional consultants often engage in requirements gathering, process analysis, system configuration and testing. They work closely with the project team and Enablement consultants to ensure the system effectively supports business operations.

Enablement Sessions: Empowering teams, stakeholders, or users to maximize the value of tools, systems, or processes through training, change adoption, and operational support.

  • Sessions will be largely user driven and based on discoveries made in Functional consulting sessions, and especially on the impact of change on current or future operational procedures.
  • Enablement consultants emphasize deeper understanding of the system and tools, driving user adoption, skill-building, and aligning technology with organizational goals. They often do ad-hoc training, conduct deep dive discovery sessions, and create resources to help users effectively utilize tools, adapt to changes and recognize value.
