HCU to Launch Master of Science in Leadership Degree in Fall 2024

Houston, Texas, Feb. 14, 2024 – Houston Christian University has announced plans to launch a Master of Science in Leadership program in fall 2024.  Offered through HCU’s Pampell Online Division, the new advanced degree is designed to prepare individuals for effective leadership in a diverse range of industries and organizations.

In addition to equipping students to become effective leaders, the program is designed to help individuals cultivate their leadership skills in alignment with their Christian values.

“It is very exciting to offer a Master of Science in Leadership program to HCU students. In today’s society, we have to put forth a concerted effort on teaching leadership principles to our students so they can deal with the pressures of everyday life in the manner that Houston Christian University intended,” said Mike Rome, Dean of the Archie W. Dunham College of Business.

“The challenges that the students will face are many, but we hope that by being principled and taught strong Christian leadership values, their leadership will shine in the marketplace,” said Rome.

The 30-credit hour program helps students develop strategic thinking, influential communication, organizational behavior, ethical judgment and a global mindset. Candidates with degrees from any undergraduate backgrounds are eligible to enroll in the program which is also an ideal leadership development option for HCU student-athletes completing their eligibility.

The ideal candidate for this new program is the individual who is seeking to 1) transition from an individual contributor role to a people or project management position, 2) lead change initiatives in an existing leadership role, 3) launch a consulting business focused on leadership training and development, and 4) complement technical or functional expertise with strategic leadership abilities.

HCU Assistant Professor of Leadership, Dr. John Wesevich, was instrumental in developing the curriculum for the new online degree program with the aim of enabling students to create positive change in diverse organizational settings that coincide with their Christian values and principles.

“This program equips students with not only the essential skills and knowledge for effective leadership but also fosters their spiritual growth and character development,” said Dr. Wesevich.

On completion, graduates are empowered to pursue top leadership positions, such as 1) vice president, 2) operations manager, 3) regional manager, 4) senior project manager, 5) head of business unit, 6) executive director or 7) CEO or founder of a startup.

By earning an advanced leadership credential backed by strategic management capabilities, Master of Science in Leadership graduates develop in-demand skills and unlock their highest echelon of career advancement and income potential. The coursework also equips entrepreneurial students to found and scale their own ventures through development of key leadership competencies.

This program is pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
