Houston Christian University (HCU) is expanding its engineering offerings with the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2027, strengthening the University’s growing College of Science and Engineering and preparing students to serve and lead in one of the nation’s strongest engineering markets.
The 125-credit-hour program combines foundational engineering principles with hands-on laboratory experiences, real-world projects, industry engagement and HCU’s distinctive Christian liberal arts education. The program is designed not only to prepare students for successful engineering careers, but also to shape the character, values and sense of purpose they bring to their profession.
“The introduction of the Mechanical Engineering program at HCU further strengthens our existing engineering and computing programs. Multidisciplinary projects and teaming ensure that all of our engineering, cyber and technology graduates enter the workforce prepared to collaborate and solve the challenges of tomorrow,” said Dr. Katie Evans, Dean of the College of Science & Engineering.
HCU’s Mechanical Engineering program is the only Christian mechanical engineering program in the Houston metropolitan area. Students benefit from small class sizes, direct access to faculty mentors, an integrated lecture-and-lab curriculum, internship support and a year-long senior design project sponsored by industry partners.
From their first year, students engage in engineering projects and develop skills in areas such as computer-aided design, programming, calculus, physics and laboratory equipment. Upper-level coursework includes thermodynamics, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, dynamic systems and controls, mechatronics, machine design and manufacturing processes. The program culminates in a two-semester senior design experience in which student teams take an open-ended engineering challenge from concept through testing.
Located in Houston, HCU students are positioned near a diverse range of employers across energy, aerospace and defense, manufacturing, healthcare technology, construction and engineering services. These industries offer opportunities in mechanical design, manufacturing, product development, energy systems, mechatronics and robotics, aerospace, project management and research and development.
