HOUSTON, Texas, Sept. 1, 2026 – Houston Christian University will launch a new Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence in Fall 2027, preparing students with the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience needed to excel in one of the world’s fastest-growing and most transformative fields.
HCU’s new degree is designed to meet this growing demand by preparing graduates to become innovative problem-solvers and responsible leaders in an AI-driven world.
Developed by the College of Science and Engineering, the program combines a rigorous foundation in computer science, mathematics, and engineering with advanced coursework in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, large language models and AI applications in cybersecurity.
“I’m grateful to the College faculty for designing this degree that responds to workforce needs and prepares our students to be ethical designers of and contributors to AI advancements that are transforming the majority of workplace settings,” said Dr. Katie Evans, Dean of the College of Science and Engineering.
Students will also complete an internship and senior capstone project, ensuring they graduate with meaningful real-world experience and a portfolio that demonstrates their expertise.
A defining feature of the program is its emphasis on the ethical development and application of artificial intelligence. Reflecting HCU’s Christ-centered mission, students will be challenged to consider not only what AI can accomplish, but how it should be designed and implemented in ways that responsibly serve individuals, organizations and society.
According to Dr. Justin Joshuva, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, “Artificial intelligence is reshaping every aspect of society, creating unprecedented opportunities to solve complex problems and improve lives.”
“Our program is designed to prepare students with a rigorous foundation in computer science, mathematics and AI while emphasizing hands-on learning through real-world projects. Beyond technical excellence, we challenge students to consider the ethical responsibilities of developing intelligent systems, so they graduate ready to innovate with integrity, lead with purpose and make a meaningful impact in an AI-driven world,” said Dr. Joshuva.
Graduates will be well prepared for careers as AI engineers, machine learning engineers, data scientists, software developers, AI solutions architects, and other technology-focused roles, as well as for graduate study in artificial intelligence and related disciplines.
The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence will welcome its inaugural class in Fall 2027.
