Founders’ Day with Ramiro Peña
An HCU tradition is to celebrate the anniversary of the University’s founding on November 15, 1960 at a Convocation in the middle of the fall semester. This is an opportunity to be reminded of the Christian convictions and missions that motivated our founders to courageously work and sacrificially give to start a new institution of higher education in Houston. It also gives us a moment to thank God for the gift that HCU is to each of us and to challenge us to faithfully steward the HCU legacy that has been entrusted to us.
Each year we invite a distinguished alumnus or guest to address us in Convocation on this theme, and this year we have the honor of hearing from the current chairman of the HCU Board of Trustees, Rev. Ramiro Peña. Rev. Peña is the pastor of Christ the King Baptist Church in Waco, Texas as well as a former administrator and regent at Baylor University. He has served as Special Court Master and Mediator for the 66th Judicial District Court of Texas and also served as a member of both the White House Commission on Hispanic Prosperity and the White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative during the first Trump Administration.
