Jeff Sutton, Assistant Director of Athletic Media Relations, interviews Walker Zander, a junior pitcher on HCU’s Men’s Baseball Team. Walker shares the things he learned as a student-athlete on a journey that has taken him to four different schools before he found his home at HCU. He values the lessons and knowledge he has gained along the way and his present opportunity to play college baseball under HCU Men’s Baseball Coach Lance Berkman. He describes Berkman as not only a coach who helps players practice the skills he learned in the majors but who talks to them about life and helps them grow in their faith. Walker has not made a decision on what he will do after baseball but is currently pursuing an online master’s degree in entrepreneurship with thoughts of someday possibly starting a business. Despite the tough times he has gone through as a student-athlete, he calls his experiences an “incredible journey” that has taught him how to persevere and grow, not only as a player but as an individual. He says that the goal of everyone on the team is to compete in the playoffs, stick together, love one another and keep trying to find ways to get better.
