Course Description
CHRI 5181 Engaging Theology
In Engaging Theology we’ll explore the key theological teachings of the church and how they relate to the modern world. By drawing from the grand narrative in the Bible, we’ll see how God’s identity as Father, Son, and Spirit shapes all aspects of theology. In this way, we’ll focus on the central teachings that hold all Christian groups together, while also gaining a better understanding of different groups and denominations. The course will thus center around the book Engaging Theology co-authored by the course teacher and director of Houston Theological Seminary, Dr. Ben Blackwell.
CHRI 6313 Pastoral Care & Spiritual Formation
Pastoral Care and Spiritual Formation applies a practical and theological analysis of the pastoral care function, including Biblical shepherding principles, grief ministry, pastoral counseling, and crisis management. Church care such as hospital visitation, bereavement response, and marriage ministry are considered within Biblical church mandates. Personal spiritual foundations are presented as the basis for healthy pastoral ministry.
