Culture Influencers: Katie Alaniz

Dr. Katie AlanizDr. Katie Alaniz, Assistant Professor of Education, has been selected as a Fulbright Specialist by the J. William Fulbright Council for International Exchange of Scholars. The Fulbright Specialist Program, part of the larger Fulbright Program, was established in 2001 by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience, and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions. On the basis of Dr. Alaniz’s acceptance to the Fulbright Specialist Roster, she is now eligible to be matched with approved projects designed by foreign host institutions abroad. Dr. Alaniz’s project proposal focuses on supporting a partner university in designing and facilitating a workshop to empower education students to impact their school communities through the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to digital learning. This proposal is consistent with Dr. Alaniz’s expertise in the area of educational technology integration, as evidenced by the following books she has co-authored: Naturalizing Digital Immigrants: The Power of Collegial Coaching for Technology Integration (co-authored with Dr. Dawn Wilson) and Digital Media in Today’s Classrooms: The Potential for Meaningful Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (co-authored with Dr. Dawn Wilson and Joshua Sikora).
