The Gideon Institute of Christian Psychology and Counseling at HBU will present “Living in the Larger Story: The Christian Psychology of Larry Crabb” on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17 in Mabee Theater on HBU’s campus.
Dr. Larry Crabb may be the most influential leader in Christian counseling during the past 50 years. He published his first article in Christianity Today in the early ’70s. Since then, he has written numerous books, from “Basic Principles of Biblical Counseling,” published in 1975, to the recent, “When God’s Ways Make No Sense,” published in 2018. The conference will celebrate his amazing ministry through a consideration of his contributions to Christian counseling and the evangelical church by hearing from friends, colleagues, leaders in the field, former students and mentees, as well as Larry himself.

There are three main spheres of activity the Gideon Institute is engaged in:
1. The Institute is Academic, and operates within the HBU College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. Program offerings are the Master of Arts in Christian Psychology program (which leads to an LPA license) and the Master of Arts in Christian Counseling program (which leads to an LPC license).
2. The Institute entails a Christian Counseling Clinic that serves HBU students and the greater Houston community.
3. Finally, the Institute is engaged in Public Intellectual Work, including developing conferences, overseeing the Journal of Christian Psychology, and providing educational opportunities for the community.
