HBU Signs Guaranteed Admission Agreements with Local Community Colleges

Houston, Texas, June 30, 2022 – Houston Baptist University (HBU) is making higher education more accessible to transfer students in Texas-based community colleges. The University recently signed agreements with several local community colleges, including Houston Community College, Alvin Community College, Lone Star College and Wharton Junior College, to allow graduates from these schools to apply for guaranteed admission to HBU.

Rodney Davis, Director of Online Admissions Processing, spearheaded the enrollment initiative. He applauded its impact on providing a smooth pathway for transfer students to further their educational goals.

“We are excited to continue creating additional partnerships with other Texas-based community colleges in 2022. Our goal is to partner with 20 schools for 2022 and to double the number of partnerships to 40 schools in 2023,” said Davis.

HBU administrators believe the initiative will allow eligible students to be a part of a growing University committed to their academic success and their personal and spiritual well-being.

To qualify, prospective community college graduates must submit a transcript showing a completed associate degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Through a streamlined admissions process, transfer students applying for HBU will have their application fee waived, receive automatic consideration for a transfer merit award, and be guaranteed admission to the University.

Under these agreements, eligible transfer students will receive guaranteed acceptance of all transferable credits earned (approximately 60 credit hours) from a qualifying associate degree program. Upon enrollment, they will be informed of additional course requirements beyond the 120 minimum semester hours needed for graduation.

The guaranteed admission process will allow qualifying transfer students to enroll in most degree programs offered at HBU. However, the new agreements do not imply guaranteed admission to the University’s more competitive degree programs, such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which requires additional acceptance criteria outlined by the specific college.
