Houston, Texas, Aug. 8, 2023 – Houston Christian University (HCU) President Robert Sloan and Stanley Napper, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, are proud to announce the selection of Dr. Greggory Keiffer, HCU Executive Associate Dean and Assistant Professor of Management, as the Rex G. Baker Professor in Management.
“We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Greggory Keiffer has been named the HCU Rex G. Baker Professor. Dr. Keiffer is an alumnus and has deep commitments to the University, which, combined with his excellence in teaching and leading, makes him a perfect match for this professorship named for one of the historic leaders of HCU. The Rex G. Baker Professorship in the Dunham College of Business was established in 1977 to honor Dr. Baker for his generosity and Christian commitment as well as his service as a Founder of the University and Trustee,” said HCU President Robert Sloan.
The prestigious professorship, named in honor of Rex G. Baker, is one of the University’s top faculty appointments. Baker, a fervent advocate of academic excellence, believed that “endowment makes the difference in quality education.” On a plaque establishing the professorship, Baker was described as “a Christian gentleman, University founder, and trustee whose generous contribution of self and unswerving allegiance to the highest ideals of Christian living and academic achievement that serve to inspire all those generations which benefit from his wisdom and diligent devotion.”
Dr. Napper commended Dr. Keiffer on his selection for the highly esteemed professorship and applauded him for his many contributions to the Archie W. Dunham College of Business.
“The Rex G. Baker Professorship is reserved for a distinguished professor in the College of Business. We are very grateful for Dr. Keiffer’s service at HCU, and proud of his accomplishments in the business world, in teaching and in academic administration,” said Dr. Napper.
Dr. Keiffer, an undergraduate student in 1993 when Baker served on the Board of Trustees, considers the professorship an honor.
“As an alumnus of HCU and of the Archie W. Dunham College of Business, I am honored to serve the Kingdom, HCU, and our students through this appointment,” said Dr. Keiffer. “The foresight of HCU Trustee John Baugh in establishing the Rex G. Baker Endowed Professorship in Management enables the Dunham College of Business to continue the lecture series and activities supported by the professorship.”
Dr. Keiffer will serve as the Rex G. Baker Professor of Management from Aug. 1, 2023 – May 31, 2024.
