Houston, Texas, May 27, 2025 — Houston Christian University (HCU) Center for Christianity in Business (CCB) proudly announces the launch of the CCB Scholars Scholarship, a pioneering initiative designed to support high-achieving students with a passion for faith-driven business leadership. Spearheaded by Dr. Ernest Liang, Director of the Center for Christianity in Business, this new scholarship program offers more than just financial aid—it delivers a unique spiritual and professional development experience.
The CCB Scholars Scholarship provides tuition assistance exclusively for students pursuing business degrees at HCU. Scholars will join the Fellows and Scholars Society, a student-led organization committed to spiritual formation, peer fellowship, and mentoring from Christian business professionals.
“We are called as Christians to be salt and light in the world. This generous new scholarship program will support high achieving students who are called to express their faith through the world of business,” said HCU President Robert Sloan.
The inaugural cohort intends to accommodate up to 20 academically outstanding and spiritually committed students. Target recipients include students who attend Christian high schools and those who demonstrate a strong, active faith.
“The design of this scholarship is what truly sets it apart,” said Dr. Liang. “We’re not just giving students financial support—we’re walking with them through a formative, spiritually grounded learning experience that prepares them to thrive in the marketplace as committed Christian business leaders.”
Recipients of this scholarship program will gain insight from industry leaders on how to negotiate deals with integrity, leverage and steward financial resources, and understand how to build a business that embodies Christian principles and serves the diverse needs of the community. Mentoring, reciprocal learning and discipling opportunities are an integral part of this program.
This innovative scholarship initiative will be a structured, multi-year program that includes:
- Regularly scheduled discipleship and fellowship meetings
- Active participation in CCB organized events such as luncheons, seminars and workshops
- Direct mentoring and spiritual guidance from an Advisory Council of business leaders
- Special speakers from Christian business and academic communities
- Annual retreats and student-parent gatherings
“We’re teaching students ten times more than they’d get in a classroom. They’ll build deep, trusted relationships with leaders who have already walked this path—people who can say, ‘I’ve known this student for four years and I believe in them,’” said Dr. Liang. “That kind of support is transformational.”
Dr. Liang and his team have successfully secured funding for the inaugural group of recipients and are redoubling efforts to secure future funding to accommodate even larger future cohorts.
“No other college on campus has a scholarship program like this—focused not just on academics, but on building up the whole person,” shared Dr. Liang. “We intend to partner with Christian high schools and eventually homeschool networks to reach students who are ready to lead with both competence and conviction.”
The CCB Scholars Scholarship reflects the larger mission of the Center for Christianity in Business, recently rebranded as a “think tank” with three core pillars: equipping, knowledge and community.
