Commitment to Academic Excellence

Houston Christian University is a Christian university committed to academic excellence. The Linda Dunham School of Nursing upholds and promotes the University’s Vision and Mission. The School of Nursing focuses on teaching and student success based on Christian core values. The nursing faculty have strong clinical backgrounds and work with students to transfer knowledge from the classroom into clinical practice. Clinical experiences are provided in a number of healthcare agencies within the greater Houston area, including the world-renowned Texas Medical Center Hospitals. Within the School of Nursing, 71% of the nursing faculty have terminal/doctorate degrees.

Nursing graduates have a high employment rate with 91% or above acceptance into nurse residency programs prior to graduation.

Historically, the graduates of the traditional BSN program have had a strong pass rate on the initial licensure exam (NCLEX-RN). The 1st time pass rate for spring 2023 was 97.9%. HCU is supporting a strong team of leaders and faculty to strengthen the curriculum and policies to restore the first-time pass rate to previously high rates. The program continues to be approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing (ACEN).
