ROTC Programs
Qualified HCU students who desire to earn appointments as commissioned officers in the Air Force or Army have the opportunity to participate in ROTC training through agreements with the University of Houston.
ROTC Cross-Enrollment Program
ROTC curricula are determined by the various branches of the United States Armed Forces. The individual detachments are responsible to their service for the content and quality of their programs.
Army
HCU students may participate in the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps unit at the University of Houston. The cross-enrollment program is an arrangement between the student and the Military Science Department at the University of Houston. Academic credits are posted to the student’s transcript records at HCU. Underclassmen spend 3-5 hours a week in class and leadership lab. The Army ROTC prepares selected College students for positions of responsibility in the active Army and its reserve components. It enables a student to earn a commission as an officer at the same time he earns an academic degree in a field of his choice. The ROTC program prepares the individual to pursue either a military or a civilian career. Tuition is charged for these courses at the current HCU undergraduate tuition rate. Two- and three-year ROTC scholarships are available. Veterans may enroll directly into the Advanced Course if they have 60 credit hours remaining. After commissioning you will incur a military obligation. You must compete for active duty; it is not guaranteed but you can commission into the Reserves or National Guard.
Interested students should contact the Army ROTC Unit (HC.edu/ContactMSCI).
Air Force
HCU students may participate in the Air Force ROTC program at the University of Houston. The cross-enrollment program is an arrangement between the student and the Air Force Department at the University of Houston. The Air Force Reserve Officer Training (ROTC) program prepares men and women of character, commitment, and courage to assume leadership positions as commissioned officers in the active duty United States Air Force. Upon completion of the curriculum, students will have a thorough understanding of the core values, leadership, teamwork, and other requirements to be an effective officer in the world’s greatest Air Force. All courses and physical training sessions take place at the University of Houston.
Course Credit: ROTC classes may be taken for elective credit toward any degree plan at Houston Christian University. Freshman and sophomore level classes are open to all students. No military obligation is incurred as a result of enrollment in these courses. Junior and senior level courses are more restrictive and do require a military obligation. ROTC scholarship students also incur a military obligation.
AFROTC Scholarship Opportunities: Air Force ROTC offers scholarship opportunities for students at Houston Christian University.
