Educating and Inspiring Future Generations
Imagine what it would it be like to study our nation’s founding documents while sitting in Independence Hall – birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. The Morris Family Center for Law & Liberty at HCU is a unique opportunity to do just that! Made possible through a generous gift by university founder Stewart Morris, his family, and other supporters of the University, this exciting initiative of HCU’s College of Arts and Humanities serves our community as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.. The Center is modeled after one of our nation’s most iconic buildings – Independence Hall in Philadelphia – and offers an immersive experience in our nation’s rich history and founding principles.
The Center encourages contemplation and appreciation of our country’s founding principles. This building serves our campus as an outward and visible reminder of the hallmark American values that speak to the heart of the HCU community. The Center celebrates our nation’s commitment to liberty and justice for all by focusing on key principles in our founding documents such as natural law, equality, limited government, and free enterprise. Our related courses in history, political science, and law are designed to explore and address difficult questions about our past while promoting dialogue about how to build a better nation going forward.

Extracurriculars

We host an educational field-trip experience for fifth graders focusing on the American founding, where students reenact the historic events that took place in Independence Hall. We have also partnered with schools to bring older students to the building for unique educational opportunities directed by their teacher, from reading our nation’s founding documents to analyzing 18th-century poetry.
