Dr. Cynthia Simpson, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Houston Baptist University, and Dr. Chad Rose, University of Missouri, presented a session titled, “Bully Prevention Through Social Skills Development” at the 2016 Council for Learning Disabilities Conference in San Antonio, Texas on October 14, 2016. The presenters expanded upon evidence indicating that social and emotional learning is a promising practice for reducing bullying among youth with disabilities. The research presented explored the additive benefits of targeted social skills instruction for youth with disabilities and low social skills.
Dr. Cynthia Simpson also co-authored a paper with Dr. Chad Rose and June Priest, University of Missouri, titled “Exploring psychosocial predictors of bullying involvement for students with disabilities” in Remedial and Special Education, Vol. 37(5) 308–317.
