HBU Department of Music to Present President’s Concert

The Houston Baptist University Department of Music is pleased to announce the President’s Concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 29, in Dunham Theater, 7502 Fondren Road. The concert will feature student and faculty performers, and will demonstrate the department’s appreciation for HBU president, Dr. Robert B. Sloan, and Mrs. Sue Sloan.

The President’s Concert will feature a full professional orchestra, and the program will include the Texas premiere of “Song of the Captive,” a work based on the Psalms, and composed by Department of Music Chair and Director of Choral Activities Dr. Terre Johnson. “Song of the Captive” was first performed in Florence, Italy in 2016, and will be performed by the HBU choirs, faculty soloists and orchestra. Additionally, the winner of the Department of Music’s Concerto/Aria Competition, sophomore soprano Sydney Fabregas, will perform with the orchestra.

Performances are made possible through a generous gift from the late HBU supporter, beloved Mildred Wilkes. The President’s Concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the concert at 4:30 p.m. in the adjoining McNair Hall.
