HCU’s Department of Music strives to be the strive to be the best music college and musician school in Houston. All of HCU’s students can find a musical home in the classes, lessons and ensembles of the Music Department, whether they are exploring a music college major for career opportunities in music or hoping to express themselves musically while pursuing another major.

Find Your Music College Major

HCU offers three music degrees through our Houston music school:

  1. Bachelor of Arts in Music major (BA): The music degree is tailored for the specific talents of music students who are seeking a music career that requires musical production, composing, or theory. Students also go on to pursue advanced degrees in graduate school.
  2. Bachelor of Music in Music Performance degree (BM): The music performance degree is for anyone seeking music performing and conducting careers in private studios, music bands, and serving as ministers of music and worship leaders in churches.
  3. Bachelor of Music Education degree (BME): The music education degree offers students the opportunity to become professional music educators certified to teach music at all levels (K-12).

Degrees in Music

Bachelor's Degrees

  • On Campus
    Music theory, history and related literature are all major components of the Music undergraduate degree. Students study and apply music composition and performance elements. Graduates have sufficient skills for careers in performance, teaching, choir and band conducting, and worship leading.
  • On Campus
    The Music Education (BME) undergraduate degree trains music educators and directors within specializations of performance of Vocal/Keyboard (voice, piano, and organ) or Instrumental (keyboard, woodwind, brass, or percussion). The program equips future teachers in reading music, musical precepts, and music theory.
  • On Campus
    A Music (BME) undergraduate degree positions graduates to be music educators and directors in vocal and instrumental specialties. The program equips future teachers to train their students in reading music, understanding musical precepts, applying music theory, and in both vocal and instrumental performance.
  • On Campus
    The Music (BM) undergraduate program offers students training for careers in performing and conducting, teaching at universities and primary schools, serving as music ministers and worship leaders, and maintaining private studios. Students may specialize in organ performance, piano performance, or vocal performance.
