HCU to host Dr. Dawn K. Wilson Teaching, Learning, and Research Symposium

The 2023 Dr. Dawn K. Wilson Teaching, Learning, and Research Symposium will be held from 8 a.m. – noon on Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Morris Cultural Arts Center and Hinton Center at Houston Christian University.

The symposium honors the legacy of Dr. Wilson, who impacted countless lives through her passion for education, her heart for service and her devotion to mentorship, all to the glory of God. Her vision was to provide students, colleagues, and community members with a special celebration of teaching, learning and research.

The theme for this year’s event is “Reach for the Stars: Future-Focused Teaching, Learning, and Research.”

Dr. Leroy Chiao, a former NASA astronaut and International Space Station commander, will deliver the keynote speech. Dr. Chiao currently works in business, consulting and space education. He is a professional international speaker and co-founder and CEO of OneOrbit, a training and education company,

The symposium will also feature the Discovery Dome which is housed at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The Dome provides a museum-quality show in a state-of-the-art mobile digital theater system.

Those who attend all sessions will earn a certificate for four CPE (continuing professional education) credits.

Regular registration is $15 for current HCU students and $35 for community members. The fee includes breakfast.
