Dec. 4, 2025 SHARE: Houston Christian University (HCU) alumna Callan Clark Summers was hired by the Houston Texans to paint a portrait of Robert and Janice McNair that was presented to Texans’ co-founder and chair, Janice McNair, in honor of her induction into the Houston Texans’ Ring of Honor. In recognition of her profound contributions to the Houston Texans franchise, Janice McNair has been named the fourth member of the organization’s Ring of Honor. She joins the distinguished ranks of previous inductees: founder Robert McNair, wide receiver Andre Johnson and defensive end J.J. Watt. Summers was thrilled when The Texan’s marketing director reached out in September with news that she’d been recommended to paint a portrait of Robert and Janice McNair to commemorate the special occasion. “Once the reality of the situation registered, it still felt surreal,” shared Summers of the opportunity. She completed the portrait in just two weeks, finishing in time for the Ring of Honor induction ceremony, where it was unveiled and presented to Janice McNair by Andre Johnson during halftime of the Nov. 2 Texans vs. Denver Broncos game. The HCU alum and her family received tickets to the game so they could witness the special presentation. Summers, an HCU Honors College graduate, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art in 2020 and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting in 2022 from HCU’s College of Arts & Humanities. She credits her education at HCU for enabling her to master her artistic skills. “I had lots of time dedicated to practice and skill development in the art program in addition to the solid liberal arts foundation I received in Honors College. Also, the training I received in proper framing and gallery practices was especially important for this commission,” shared Summers. Summer now works as a lead teacher at Foundations Christian Academy teaching middle school art to seventh and eighth grade students. She works on personal projects in her home studio in her spare time and recently launched a new website featuring her artistic works at callansummers.com. “I hope it will be a helpful starting point for anyone interested in my work or considering a commission of their own,” said Summers.
