A number of Houston Christian University (HCU) employees, who are retiring from service, were recognized for their lasting impact on the University community through leadership, mentorship and faithful dedication during this year’s End-of-the-Year Faculty & Staff Awards Program.
HCU Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs Stan Napper was recognized for his transformational leadership since arriving at HCU in 2017. From launching engineering and computer science programs to strengthening student affairs and faculty hiring, Napper leaves behind a legacy of vision, integrity and commitment to the University’s Christian mission.
“[Dr. Napper] has poured himself out into this job, into this process, into the work of HCU,” said HCU President Robert Sloan.
Dr. Napper recognized Linda Clark, who will retire after 45 years of service to the University. He described her as “a model, a mentor and a mom to administrative assistants all over campus, and reflected on the stability and institutional wisdom she provided while serving 10 provosts throughout her career. Her steady presence became a source of encouragement and continuity across generations of University leadership.
Coach Dave Schuster was honored for building the University’s golf program from the ground up during a pivotal period in athletics history. Reflecting on his hiring in 2007, Steve Moniaci, former HCU Athletics Director, who now serves as Special Adviser to the President for Athletics, commended Schuster for his impact from recruiting the program’s first players to developing student-athletes with patience and determination.
Assistant Professor Donna Cox was celebrated for the compassion and faith she brought to her role. Dr. Carol Lavender, Dean of the Linda R. Dunham School of Nursing, described Donna as “a quiet but powerful example of what it means to serve faithfully.” Through prayer, mentorship and excellence in teaching, Donna shaped countless nursing students while reflecting Christ in both word and action.
Together, this year’s honorees leave a lasting example of faithful leadership and enduring influence that will continue shaping the University for years to come.
