Nov. 21, 2025 SHARE: Houston Christian University has built a proud tradition of developing athletes who go on to excel at the professional level across sports and around the globe. From the basketball court to the soccer field, baseball diamond, and football gridiron, former Huskies have taken their talents into elite leagues in the United States and internationally. Whether competing in the NFL, Major League Baseball, or professional leagues in Europe, Asia and Latin America, these standout alumni have carried the HCU spirit to the highest levels of competition, earning championships, breaking records and representing their University with distinction. RACHEL ARTHUR, Women’s Basketball Arthur played four seasons for the HCU women’s basketball program from 2012-16. She was inducted into the HCU Hall of Honor in 2023 for a career that included 1,221 career points, 219 assists and 154 steals. Arthur has played overseas in Germany since finishing up at HCU, most recently playing for Rutronik Keltern. MORRIS AUSTIN, Baseball Austin spent three seasons with the Huskies, finishing his career with a 4-2 record and three saves. The right-hander struck out 49 batters in 44.1 innings. He was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 10th round of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft. 2025 marks his third season of professional baseball. As of Sept. 4, Austin was pitching in High-A ball for the Winston- Salem Dash in the Chicago White Sox system. ART BERNARDI, Men’s Basketball Bernardi was a two-year player for the Huskies, transferring to the Huskies following two years playing at a junior college. He totaled 720 points with 319 rebounds in just 53 games. He then signed a professional contract in 2023 to play professionally in his native Brazil that started a 10-year career that wrapped up in 2024. IAN DUBOSE, Men’s Basketball DuBose played three seasons (2017-20) for the Huskies, earning his degree in three years and being named Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year in 2020. In just three seasons, DuBose racked up 1,446 points, 560 rebounds, 275 assists and 133 steals in 90 games. Following one year at Wake Forest, DuBose has played the last four years for teams in Germany, the Czech Republic and the UK. SAM HOFMAN, Men’s Basketball Hofman played two seasons for the Huskies, earning his degree before moving on to play at Temple. In two years, he started 48 of the 61 games he played in and totaled 467 points and 342 rebounds. A Brussels, Belgium native, Hofman is in his second year playing professionally in Belgium. ALEXA HUERTA, Women’s Soccer Huerta played three seasons at HCU, earning her degree in just three years, before going on to sign to play professionally in Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil along with teammate Emily Jaimes. Huerta appeared in 48 matches for the Huskies, finishing her career with 12 goals and eight assists. JALYX HUNT, Football Hunt, a two-year starter at HCU, piled up an impressive 13 sacks in just 21 games for the second-most in a career all-time. He was drafted with the 94th pick of the 2024 draft in the third round by the Philadelphia Eagles. Hunt’s rookie season with the Eagles saw him finish with a Super Bowl title and a sack in the Big Game. In 16 games played, Hunt finished with 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. JOSH IBARRA, Men’s Basketball Ibarra was a force on the floor for the Huskies from 2014-18 before injuries cut his time on the floor short. He appeared in 89 career games, scoring 909 career points while adding 403 rebounds and 129 blocked shots. He signed his first professional contract with Mexican club, Fuerza Regia, and has played consistently since then. In the last seven years he has played in Mexico, Canada, Venezuela, South Korea and Indonesia, winning a total of four league championships. ABBEY SUTHERLAND, Women’s Basketball Sutherland was a four-year standout for the Huskies, starting 81 of 93 games. She played at HCU from 2019-23. She ended her collegiate career with 466 points, 294 rebounds, 117 blocked shots and 116 assists before signing a contract in Australia with the Kilsyth Cobras. Sutherland has played the last two seasons with the Melbourne Tigers. EMILY JAIMES, Women’s Soccer Jaimes spent four seasons playing for the Huskies, finishing her career with eight goals and five assists in 52 career games. She signed a contract to play professionally for Atletico San Luis located in San Luis Potosi, Mexico in Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil in 2025. CALEB JOHNSON, Football Johnson, a five-year member of the HCU football team from 2016-20, became the program’s first-ever player in the NFL when he signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears in 2021. He ranks in the top five in program history in tackles, sacks and fumble recoveries. In four NFL seasons, Johnson has played in 65 games with 38 tackles for the Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars. ERIN MCGARRACHAN, Women’s Basketball McGarrachan spent three seasons playing for the Huskies after transferring from UT-El Paso. In 62 career games for the Huskies, she totaled 562 points and 189 rebounds. She signed to play in the United Kingdom with the Leicester Riders in 2015 and played professionally in the UK up until her retirement from the sport with the Caledonia Gladiators this past May. BAILEY ZAPPE, Football Zappe, the record-setting quarterback, who became the first-ever HCU player drafted in the NFL draft, played four years at HCU, earning a degree finishing his career as the program leader in every passing category for a career and a single-season. Following one season at Western Kentucky, he was picked in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. In his first three seasons in the league, Zappe has played in 15 games while making nine starts.
