On Thursday, April 23, 2026, Lura Jane and Forrest Munford opened their home to The Guild and guests for the Houston Christian University Guild Silver Tea. The proceeds from donations for the Silver Tea benefit The Guild’s graduate education scholarships at Houston Christian University. SilverStone Catering provided a delicious spread, as well as punch and our signature Hot Tea. Valet Parking Professionals provided quick valet parking as the guests arrived at 2pm. Spring fashion was in full view with guests in beautiful florals and pastels. As they entered the beautiful entry hall, they were greeted by the our wonderful Guild member volunteers and the graciousness of the Munfords. The home was bright, cheery and full of wonderful colors and decorative details. Lura Jane and Forrest could not have been more kind and thoughtful. The menu was incredible, with the cheese straws and dessert bites being a favorite, along with the chicken salad sandwiches and tomato-basil puff pastries. Our Guild Past Presidents kindly served the Tea and Punch to our guests. The Silver Bowl was present on the entry table, and donations were accepted there. We had over 80 guests in attendance, and the weather was bright and warm. Our President, Dr. Sloan and First Lady, Sue Sloan were in attendance and welcomed the guests as they presented Lura Jane and Forrest with a framed page from the Bible.
It was a pleasure and honor to work on the Silver Tea and the home was so beautiful and the hosts were so gracious. We are grateful to our Silver Tea committee as they greeted and welcomed our guests. Elizabeth Stevenson served as our Underwriting Chair, and we’re so grateful for her incredible efforts and support. Cathy Wheatley has been a supportive and encouraging President of the Guild, and Sharon Saunders and Patti Bailey, as always, are fantastic in their important roles in the Guild and at the University.
