In this segment of “Think About It,” Dr. Marian Zaki, HCU Assistant Professor of Computer Science, travels to the Dave Ward Crime Stoppers Building in downtown Houston to speak with Rania Mankarious, CEO of Crime Stoppers of Houston and Sydney Zuiker, Director of the Safe Community Institute. Dr. Zaki discusses the collaboration between HCU’s School of Engineering and Crime Stoppers through the Glenda Gordy Research Center. HCU students collaborated through this initiative, initially through their capstone projects and later as interns and part-time employees, to develop a full-stack website with data analytics to help understand crime trends in Harris County. Zaki shares her appreciation for the partnership and the value students are gaining from working on real-world projects that extend their knowledge beyond the classroom.
