Minor in Studio Art

The Studio Art minor at Houston Christian University invites students to develop both their artistic voice and their technical mastery over their medium. Under dedicated faculty mentors, students work in mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking,. This program complements any major by fostering creative thinking and visual communication skills that enhance career preparedness.

The foundation of artistic development begins with these core courses:

  • Art Methods & Materials
  • 2D or 3D Design
  • History of Art (choice of two periods)

Students then explore their creative interests through three studio courses chosen from:

  • Ceramics
  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Sculpture
  • Water Media
  • Life Drawing

Since the arts are about creative visual communication, this minor is a fantastic complement to a variety of career paths, such as business, education, ministry and other professional fields. Students emerge with both technical capability and distinct creative voices, ready to make meaningful contributions to their chosen field through their art.
