Testimonials from Current Honors Scholars

“The Honors College allows you to be the craftsman of your education. It provides you with the tools and materials to build your knowledge and strengthen it. These tools are your mentors and peers, as they provide refinement and aid to your thoughts and beliefs. The texts, even more so, as you are put face to face with the greatest minds in history.

The Honors College is a place to reflect and contemplate the wonders of humanity. It forces you to think about where you come from, who you were, and who you are meant to be.”
—Katelyn Moore, Psychology Major

“My time in the Honors College has completely changed me as a person. It has taught me the value of a truthful and honest conversation amongst my peers. The Honors College has taught me how to approach many different people, situations, and ideas. It has allowed me to visualize my surroundings under a different light. Rather than looking at things or ideas on a superficial point of view, I’m better at understanding them and digging deeper to finding the meaning of it all. The Honors Program at HCU has honestly changed my life for the better, and I highly recommend joining this outstanding program! ”
—Jonathan Bruce, Nursing Major

“The Honors College forces you to consider your role in the universe. Whether it is Sophocles showing you the folly of human pride, Socrates challenging you to value truth more highly, or Aristophanes showing a side of the Greeks that even the Greeks didn’t want to acknowledge, these books can change your life. Come join the search!”
—Timothy Smith, Philosophy Major

“The discussion-based style of the Honors College has helped me strengthen my communication skills with others. Hearing from my peers and learning with and from them is a unique and valuable experience.”—Miriam Billing, Music Major

“Being in the Honors College is one of the most challenging things that I have been through, but I can also say that is also one of the most rewarding. Most think that engineering has nothing to do with writing and reading, but one of the most important parts of being an engineer is the ability to communicate effectively. Through the Honors College, I have been grown significantly in my articulation of information. I look forward to all of the exciting things I will learn in the future from being a part of this amazing community. Though the road may be narrow and bumpy at times, if you stick it out until the end you will become someone you could never dream of becoming.”
—Brian Davis, Engineering Major

“The Honors College offers a unique chance to explore the greatest stories humanity has ever produced, and an even more unique opportunity to dive into them with peers and professors as hungry for the truth as you are. It’s more than just that, of course, and I could go on and on about the memories I’ve made with and the community that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. That’s just a bonus, though; there’s a real learning going on in the Honors College, and I think all of us ought to get that sense of real learning while we can. Read, write, discuss; it’ll change your life.”
