Chemistry Degree (BS)
The Chemistry degree includes courses in biochemistry as well as general, inorganic, organic, analytical, and physical chemistry. Calculus I and II and two courses in calculus-based physics are also required. The Chemistry degree curriculum provides laboratory experiences and includes a senior research project. Internships and additional undergraduate research opportunities, outside of course requirements, are available to qualified Chemistry degree majors. Undergraduate research has been financially supported by the Robert A. Welch Foundation for more than 25 years.
Careers and Opportunities with a Chemistry Major
An understanding of chemistry allows students to excel in medicine, research, education and energy industries. Graduates with a chemistry degree commonly pursue graduate school and further study in various health professions.
Pre-Professional Programs
The College of Science and Engineering also offers (in addition to advising for HCU degree requirements) specialized advising for students planning to continue their education after obtaining a chemistry degree from HCU by attending medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, or an engineering school.
