American Red Cross (ARC)
The purpose and goal of the American Red Cross is to provide compassionate care for those in need. The HCU ARC chapter wants to expand on this and create a fellowship of members who want to give back to our Houston community
“The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.” The American Red Cross HCU Chapter focuses on informing communities about fire safety, hosting blood drives, and raising funds for measles, mumps and rubella vaccines. We also volunteer with local organizations like Attack Poverty, Habitat for humanity, Houston Food Bank and Project Cure to support their causes to better our Houston community. The American Red Cross is a nonprofit agency with a long history of providing relief to individuals affected by war and natural disaster. It was first formed in order to aid men wounded on the battlefield. It evolved into a network of approximately 1,300 local chapters of volunteers who respond to flood, fire, earthquake, and drought.
The Red Cross is a globally recognized organization. Ten hours of volunteering provides free CPR training/ renewal. Forty hours earns a member graduation cords.
Membership is open every semester. Fall membership dues are $25 and covers two semesters and shirts. Spring dues are only $10 but only covers that semester and does not include the cost of a shirt.
