Culture Influencers: Spoede, Linstrum and Leggett

On February 11, 2019, Dr. John T. Spoede, Jr., LPC-S, LCDC, NCC, CSC (Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, National Credentialed Counselor, Certified School Counselor and the director, Center for Research and Doctoral Studies and assistant professor of Education), with Dr. Karen Linstrum, LPC-S, CRC (Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and associate professor of Counseling) and Dr. Elsa Soto Leggett, LPC-S, RPT-S, CSC (Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, Certified School Counselor, Professor of Counseling and department chair for Counseling) presented at the Texas School Counselor Association 14th Annual Conference.

The session they presented was entitled, “Ethical Dilemmas: Understanding How to be an Ethical Professional School Counselor and LPC.” During the session, the participants learned about the new LPC rules in Texas, reviewed the Professional School Counseling rules in Texas and reviewed discrepancies between the ACA and ASCA code of ethics. The participants applied an ethical decisionmaking model to several realistic case studies. Participants also learned about resources that are available to assist them.
