Additional Background

Dr. Steve Peterson was born and raised outside of Philadelphia, PA. He holds a B.S. in Religion, an M.A. in Religion, an M.B.A., and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Liberty University.

Dr. Peterson has served in higher education for more than 22 years in a variety of roles that helped him gain an understanding of academic administration and the student success life-cycle.

Serving as the Vice President for Online/Digital Learning, Dr. Peterson is responsible for the overall leadership and achieving the goals of the Pampell Online Division at Houston Christian University as outlined by the President and his council.

Dr. Peterson’s career began working in financial aid. During these foundational years he discovered the variety of assistance programs that are available to students as they complete their educational journey. It was also during this time that Dr. Peterson developed an appreciation for the administrative responsibilities of higher education. He would execute financial aid and student progress reporting that assisted in the proper disbursement and accountability of Title IV funds.

In 1996, Dr. Peterson began working in the Chancellor’s Office at Liberty University. Over the next 10 years he was able to view and participate in the full scope of academic administration. Dr. Peterson supported fundraising activities, staff and resource management, publication distribution, and served as a liaison to the Chancellor.

Dr. Peterson and colleagues launched an internal marketing division at Liberty in 2007. That division was responsible for all marketing publications for Liberty’s residential and online programs, as well as the development efforts to raise funds for operational costs, scholarships, and the university endowment. Dr. Peterson was instrumental in developing the workflows, policies, and procedures that governed the marketing division and ensured brand compliance.

In 2010, Dr. Peterson was tasked with running a large admissions division for the growing online program at his institution. Serving as Vice President of Admissions he oversaw admissions and recruitment for the online program. Under his leadership and the expanded online recruitment efforts, enrollments reached nearly 100,000 students.

Dr. Peterson is married to his wife, Faith, of 26 years and they have five children. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and volunteering both in his local community and church.
