President's Message 2024

The News Magazine of HCU

Houston Christian University is amplifying our commitment to cultivate the next generation of individual contributors in the science, engineering and nursing fields—industries with great opportunity for Christian voices, ideas and influence. We are building a dynamic campus environment where students are immersed in experiences and forward-thinking learning facilities that will prepare them to expertly steward their gifts.

The world is becoming increasingly interconnected and complex, and we want to ensure our students are able to engage it with relevant and pioneering solutions. The work that our University contributes to God’s Kingdom centers on empowering students to be equipped to become the full expression of who God has called them to be and to complete the good works He has called them to do (Ephesians 2:10).

Our emphases on critical thinking, academic excellence and transformative spiritual discipleship are among the many virtues that make our University one-of-a-kind. With consideration to the great call and need for honorable and knowledgeable professionals, we are progressing in our efforts to support the holistic development of our students, through fostering an academic atmosphere where innovation is married with the timeless values that reflect the heart of the Creator. A tangible representation of our continued success toward achieving this goal is the new Smith Engineering, Science and Nursing Building, slated to open in Fall 2026. Thanks to the generous donations of the Smiths and several others, this multidisciplinary facility will serve students within those fields of study and our entire HCU community—celebrating a new era of enhanced creativity, collaboration and connection on campus.

Through practical application, students will learn to use technology as a tool to more effectively further God’s purposes and better meet global challenges through a Christian worldview. Our faculty and staff will have enhanced ability to inspire students to actualize their God-given potential through cutting-edge equipment and labs. We are in prayerful anticipation that these spaces will be the catalyst to meaningful developments within those fields of study. We look forward to this highly collaborative space embodying our collective mission to think and act as visionaries while maintaining the uncompromising foundation of our rich Christian legacy. I am excited to see all that we will accomplish together through this dynamic expansion.
