Cultural Influencer: Dr. Ernest Liang

Dr. Ernest Liang, Director of the Center for Christianity in Business and Associate Professor of Finance in the Archie W. Dunham College of Business, received the Best Paper award for his submission and presentation of the paper entitled “Scaling and Business Enterprises: Lessons from the Early Church” at the 2023 Annual Conference of the Christian Business Faculty Association in Denver, Colorado on November 11, 2023.

The paper examines lessons from the early Christian church and applies distinctive attributes during the first few centuries of the church’s rapid expansion to modern-day business enterprises, with a special focus on scaling culture and talent, network economy, change management, and incentives design and implementation. The paper by invitation will appear in the conference’s electronic proceedings and is under review for inclusion in CBFA’s own Journal of Biblical Integration in Business.

Dr. Liang, in collaboration with DCOB faculty Dr. Ellen Clardy, also recently published their article, “Economic Perspectives on Entrepreneurship: Biblical Interpretations and Applications” in the 12th issue (2023) of the peer-reviewed journal Christian Business Review, a publication of HCU’s own Center for Christianity in Business. The paper elicits biblical examples and insights into principles of behavioral economics and applies them to modern-day faith as well as non-faith-based entrepreneurial ventures.
