What is Family Studies?
Family studies seeks to understand the health and welfare of families to help us to better determine the future for our children and the nation as a whole. It’s difficult to find anyone who does not believe that families are the building blocks of any society. We believe that the family is one of the cornerstones of civilization. Our academic approach to family studies takes very seriously ways to enlarge our understanding in order to prepare students, not just as members of families themselves, but as proactive agents of change to help find ways to strengthen and value the family as a whole.

The Family Studies major/minor will help to prepare you with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the changing dynamics of family life in America today. Courses in the Family Studies program will help you gain the most current knowledge of demographic trends, theoretical explanations and statistical data about the past, present and future of family life.

Family Studies Degree Information
The Family Studies program seeks to provide each student with a fundamental understanding of the essential dimensions of family life. Students explore family studies theories, contexts and processes used to understand the dynamics of family interaction related to communication, sexuality, childhood, economics and family roles. The Family Studies program advocates church and community involvement in the lives of students as central to healthy human development and family studies. This type of academic learning mixed with direct application strengthens home and family as the fundamental unit of society.
